I have been involved in a number of different literary projects including the Soviet-era thriller City of Ghosts (A Times ‘Thriller of the Year’), Billy Quiz and the Mission to Mars, a coming-of-age story set in the Newcastle of the 1970s, and Shuffle, an award-winning experimental fiction concept which featured seven different but linked stories that can be read in any order that suits the reader. A Traitor’s Heart, the sequel to City of Ghosts, was chosen as one of the Times' thrillers of the month. Man of Bones, the third in the series, is out now (May 2024).

City of Ghosts was written in partnership with the former Times and Financial Times journalist Barney Thompson under the pen-name Ben Creed. The first of a three-part series, it has already been sold into a number of different international markets, and was one of The Times ‘Books of the Year’ for 2020. It was shortlisted for two awards at the CWA Daggers including the Gold Dagger for crime novel of the year.
